Hi, everyone! My sincere apologies for taking so long to get back--my alternate reality just kept getting in the way! The winner of the print copy of "Hotter Than Hell" is Wanda Flanagan. :) Wanda, if you'd care to drop me a line at raine@raineweaver.com, I'll be happy to get that in the mail to you. When I was about 13 I live in this old 2 story building with a creepy attic. Every night my mom would tuck me into bed and during the night she would come check on my sister and I and cover us back up if our blankets fell off. Well one night, my mom wasn't home because she was on a business trip and wouldn't be home until a couple of days later. Sometime during the night someone came and covered me back up because my blankets fell off. I thought it was my dad or sister, except when I asked they said they never got up in the middle of the night. Weird, huh?

Eternal Optimist? Can Love Conquer All? by Caridad Pineiro
Posted by Rom in FF and P, Giveaway with the tag Caridad Pineiro, Sins of The Flesh
Posted date: 02 Dec 2009

Congratulations limecello!  You’re our winner today.  Please email MicheleC (at) romconinc.com with your information to claim your prize.  Thanks for visiting RomCon!

People often ask me where I get the ideas for my stories, but the truth of it is that I usually get the ideas for my characters first and then tailor the story around them.  With SINS OF THE FLESH, my thoughts kind of went like this:

Heroine:

Needs name that can be one syllable – Cat.  Catherine is too common, but Caterina is just right.  Exotic and elegant like the heroine.  Caterina is talented.  She makes beautiful music.  A sensual instrument like the cello.  She has no family, few friends and no love interest.

Hero:

Needs name that can be one syllable – Mick.  Mick is creative also – he likes to make things go boom!  Lots of friends and family who think he’s a hero.  Many female conquests, but no lover.  Mick is a really bad boy – the kind who walks a very fine line to earn his livelihood.

Mick and Cat seemed like an unlikely pair to put together and yet I love having very different characters find common ground and of course, love.  I’m an eternal optimist who thinks love can conquer all.

Did I mention that Cat is dying?  Or at least she was before she signed onto a radical gene therapy that saves her life, but makes her something other than human.  Something that Mick is paid to hunt down (or kill if necessary).

Or at least that’s how my evil mind started writing SINS OF THE FLESH.  The characters and their basic traits, what brings them together and what may tear them apart.  Then it’s time to expand on the ideas, do some research into the nitty gritty of the genetic engineering that is going to help/change Cat, the things that go boom for Mick and of course, making sure there is enough romance and suspense to keep you flipping the pages until the very end.

Some think that it’s a tough job to go from those simple beginning thoughts to a finished book, but it’s a job that I love doing.  There is amazing satisfaction in being able to craft a story that people will hopefully enjoy reading and I couldn’t imagine not writing.

Thanks for dropping by!

~Caridad

Hi Caridad!
I'm an optimist--definately. How else would you explain my irrational belief that, if I kept working hard, someone would eventually publish one of my stories. That kind of belief in a positive outcome is sometimes confused with being delusional, especially in the publishing biz. But the glass is more than half-full, definately!

Hello Caridad, How's your day? I think I am alittle of both. I think you have to work at love, fight for what you want and don't give up until every obstacle has been met. If and then, it's not meant, go your separate ways as friends if possible. Love has many stages. It's hard work, you either fight to survive or just go through the motions.

Thanks for dropping by! I'll be back later to chat some more, but now I've got to go run and catch a train home.

Hi Caridad. Sounds like an awesome premise. I'm just starting to write my second romance manuscript, and I start with the characters as well, but the conflict is never far behind.

I used to be told I was a pessimist, and then I'd tell people I was a realist. But now that I've fallen in love, I'd say I'm much more optimistic. Love's hard work sometimes, but worth every sacrifice when you find a best friend who'll stick by your side.

I wish you the best of luck with your novel.

I love the covers as well (front and back). They are very eye-catching. I am having a great day here and like you, I guess I'm a Pollyanna as well!

Caridad ~ Welcome to RomCon! SINS OF THE FLESH sounds amazing, and I loved the glimpse into how it all percolated in your brain! I tend to be an optimist, especially about people - occasionally I even earn the moniker "Pollyanna". :0) And of course I believe love can conquer all...hence my love of romance. Hope you enjoy your day with us at RomCon! ~ Tiffany

I believe that love can conquer all if you are willing to work for the relationship.

I guess *ALL* is pretty far-reaching. Love can't conquer death after all, much as we would like to think that it could. But in a romance, it can which is I guess why I love writing paranormals.

Hi Caridad - great post! As for being an optimist or pessimist... I've often said I'm an optimistic pessimist :X. And when people say that's pessimistic, I respond that it isn't - merely pragmatic. :P
As for whether or not love conquers all... in a romance, of course. It should. It has to - that's the whole point. In real life? Of course it helps out a lot. Immeasurably... but :X and here is the optimistic pessimism... I'm not sure if it conquers *all.*

I love the premise of your book. Of course I've always enjoyed your books. The Calling series was really the first vampire books that I got hooked on. I guess I tend to be a pessimist. I've been divorced twice, but I do still believe in love. And yes, I think at times love can conquer all, I just haven't experienced it. I enjoy my HEA's through reading romance books and I read all genres. I've just recently starting reading fantasy. I've heard great things about this book, can't wait to read it.

Thanks so much for letting me visit, Michele. Like you, I love the science stuff and am so glad that you do as well. As for love - it does keep us going through the hard times and the good. But love takes work and what I like about writing romance is that it does explore what it takes to get over differences and find abiding love.

Be back later to chat with you some more!

Hi Caridad! Welcome to RomCon! I love when books get scientific, and gene therapy gone bad is right up my alley. Sounds intriguing. I do think true love can conquer all, or at least keep you sane during the hard times and help keep things in perspective. :)
