Hi, everyone! My sincere apologies for taking so long to get back--my alternate reality just kept getting in the way! The winner of the print copy of "Hotter Than Hell" is Wanda Flanagan. :) Wanda, if you'd care to drop me a line at raine@raineweaver.com, I'll be happy to get that in the mail to you. Huge thanks, everyone, for joining me here, and to the ladies of RomCon for inviting me.

When I was about 13 I live in this old 2 story building with a creepy attic. Every night my mom would tuck me into bed and during the night she would come check on my sister and I and cover us back up if our blankets fell off. Well one night, my mom wasn't home because she was on a business trip and wouldn't be home until a couple of days later. Sometime during the night someone came and covered me back up because my blankets fell off. I thought it was my dad or sister, except when I asked they said they never got up in the middle of the night. Weird, huh?

Cover Love by Larissa Ione

Long before I started writing, I was a reader.  And I remember that the first thing that attracted me to a book was the cover.  The title came next, followed by the author.  Eventually, I started buying books by author alone, but when it comes to browsing in book stores, I still gravitate toward covers, especially when seeking books by authors I haven’t read.

And I have to admit, I’m a nut for colors.  A blue cover will catch my eye faster than any other.  Purple is a close second, followed by grays.  After that, I gravitate toward black and silvers, or anything just plain striking.  I’m insanely jealous of Kresley Cole’s cover on her upcoming title, Pleasure of a Dark Prince.  I absolutely love the combination of gray and pink, even though, in general, I’m not fond of pink for covers.

My favorite covers of all time?  Robert Jordan’s Eye of the World and Marion Zimmer Bradley’s The Mists of Avalon – both blue.  And coincidentally, both featuring horses.  Hmm…I just now realized that!

When it comes to urban fantasy, I really like the female-only covers where the heroine is armed with a sword or dagger, and at that point, a gritty, brown-ish cover works well.

For historicals, I’ve always liked a castle in the background. Not sure why, but if I see a castle, I’m going to pick the book up.  Same with any cover that features a pyramid. Setting is important to me, so set the book in Egypt or England, and I’m there.

Another, relatively new trend I like? The cut-off face we see so much, especially for the males on covers.  It allows for fantasy to take over, for the reader to add favorite features, favorite hair color, eye color.  I love that!  So often I picture the hero in the book to be completely different from the image on the cover, but if I can’t see the entire image, the picture in my head isn’t compromised.  I especially love this effect for paranormal and romantic suspense/milrom covers, where you have a bare-chested guy with dogtags or a tattoo.

I got lucky with my most recent cover, because not only did I get the gorgeous purple I love, but I got the cut-off faced, bare-chested guy with a tattoo!  Ecstasy Unveiled is the fourth book in my Demonica series, and though it is an odd duck when compared to the three before it, which feature couples, it still fits with the overall series “look,” definitely indicating a dark, powerful hero with arm markings that are important to the plot. *pets cover*  Oh, yes…very lucky…

What about you?  What kind of cover will always draw your eye?  Is it color, setting, or models?  Do you have a favorite cover, even if the book itself isn’t a favorite?

Hi Everyone!

Apologies for getting here so late. I was out for a lot of the day and then had some internet issues on top of that.

Anyway, nice to see you!

Michelle, thank you! Hope you like Lore's book! That demon gave me hell when I was writing him! And yeah, I'm not so much for the covers with funky designs. I don't mind simple designs, but anything too busy is distracting. Given the choice though, I prefer hot guys on covers of romances!

Hi Chelsea! I'm right there with ya!

Donna, LOL! And OMG, shelving them by color??? Though I have to say, I'd be drawn right to the blue and purple ones! And yes, I love UF covers with a woman with a weapon. Nalini Singh's latest is fantastic!

I love synchronicity! May we take this a bizarrre step further?

I recently read in an article on efficiently organizing one's home that since people so seldom really read the books on bookshelves and since it makes a more visually appealing presentation, we should arrange books by color rather than author, genre or Dewey Decimal System. WHAT? I enjoy colors and cover art as much as the next person, but the last time I accepted without protest that books be arranged by color was when I assisted in my son's preschool library about 25 years ago.

Not all of my books are on shelves. I have stacks of 'to be read' and stacks of 'is this a keeper or not' books, and it may be that two blues or two reds have ended up side by side, but please know that it was not intentional if that happened.

My favorite covers tend to have either a strong (usually tattooed) woman holding a deadly weapon of some variety or a strong (usually tattooed) man holding a deadly weapon of some variety.

Oh, my. My husband has just handed me my daily dose of Prozac...must go now.

Hi, Larissa! I'm also a cover person. I like covers like yours: moody, but eye catching, with a cover model whos head is not shown so you not have that guys face stuck in your head while reading. I also like the Twilight series covers. Very simple and pretty.

Hi Larissa! I love covers. In fact, the thing that has kept me from falling in love with my e-reader is that the covers are either not there, or small and gray. Ugh. I like sexy covers. I'm not a fan of the generic cover that has a design or symbol on it. I don't usually care about the woman's face - but I love to see the clothes (especially if it's historical or urban fantasy!) And hot guys without the face! Oh, yes. That's my new favorite. :) And I really enjoy your books. Those brothers are amazing! Thanks for stopping by today. I can't wait to read Lore's book. With a full COLOR cover. LOL.
