Here Comes Trouble...by Donna Kauffman

A little trouble is about to fly into Maureen's world. Congrats, Maureen! You're the winner of Donna's giveaway. Please email tiffany@romconinc.com with your info!

Here Comes Trouble…

I've always been the goody-two-shoes kid.  The one who does extra credit even when she has an A.  I don't know what this says about me (and probably don't want to know) but I do know that I've never been the type to get into trouble.  In fact, I've often gone out of my way to avoid it.  So, almost fifty years into my existence on this planet, it's rather interesting for me to realize that I really like writing about trouble.  I especially like putting my heroes and heroines right smack, deep in the middle of it.  Although, I will admit, that writing a story about Brett Hennessey, the reigning bad boy rock star of the professional poker world?  Was anything but trouble.  In fact, it was a ton of fun!  (Again, I avoid the self analysis and just enjoy the moment!)  But what’s not to love?  Here’s a guy who makes winning look easy, but feels at a total loss when trying to figure out what he’d really like to be doing with his life.  The thrill is gone, if it was ever there, but when certain folks aren’t happy about his pending retirement from the sport, he hops on his Harley and heads east, drawing the attention away from those he cares for the most.  He doesn’t stop until he finds himself winding through the mountains of Vermont where he spots a unique little Victorian B&B.  Looks like the perfect place to hole up and do a lot of thinking.  Instead, after less than an hour on the premises, he finds himself saving the innkeeper from breaking her lovely neck, and somehow ends up the adoptive father of a feral kitten.  He’s definitely not in Vegas anymore!

But while Brett finds nothing but trouble as the only guest at Kirby Ferrell’s brand new establishment, he does his best to keep trouble from following him.  What do you want to bet he’s not entirely successful at that part?  But he’s found something special in the Green Mountains of Vermont.  Himself.  And, very possibly, the one person he’d like to share his new possibilities with.  Trouble?  Sure.  But worth every minute of it.  Especially when it's not happening to me.  Double bonus!

So, if you want to take a little walk on the wild side without, you know, actually leaving home to do it, then you might want to pick up a copy.  And if you do, I hope you enjoy the ride.   Oh, and if any of you are Cosmo Girls, check out the excerpt of the book in the March issue!

Also, for those of you who like your trouble wrapped in a kilt, I'm happy to announce I'm heading back to the land of heather and tartan with a contemporary series slated to start in late May.  First up is Some Like It Scot, followed right around Santa time with Off Kilter.  And there's a few other titles scattered in between as well, just to keep you from being bored!  Check out my daily blog at www.donnakauffman.com/blog for all the immediate and droolable details, including upcoming cover art…and a chance every week to win a free book!  For the next two weeks, with Valentine's Day just around the corner, there's chocolate involved as well.  Just sayin.   And I love to hear from readers, so feel free to drop me a line!

Hey, everyone, do you like trouble? Tell us yes or no and why or why not for your chance to win a copy of Here Comes Trouble!

Thanks so much for having me, Tiffany! I love the site, so much to dive into. Keep up the great work! I'll be wandering about here often. :)

Hi, Donna ~ Just wanted to stop by and thank you for joining us! Hope you'll come back again soon. ~ Tiffany

Donna, I am just like your friend because I didn't really pay any attention to what was at the bottom of the book's cover either! After I read your comment, I had to take another look! LOL :-)

A little trouble once in a while is all right in my book (as long as no one's arrested). It livens things up.

Great cover for HERE COMES TROUBLE. If you have been to the mountains in Vermont or anywhere in that area, you know it is a great place to get lost with someone you love - preferably in a cozy cabin. I don't know if trouble would be part of it, but it could be if you'd like.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments! I'm glad you like the cover, too. It's one of my all time favorites. He does have trouble written all over him, doesn't he? I was telling a friend of mine how I liked the way they juxtaposed the model on top of the cover, and the Vermont scene of the house at the bottom, to which she blankly replied, "There's a house on the cover?" LOL!! He does sort of dominate a person's attention... :) For those who pick up a copy, I hope you enjoy it!

congrats on the release donna!! i love trouble--especially if it comes tall, dark, and handsome with a killer body (and i wouldn't mind if it comes in a kilt either)!

Congrats on your new release! I can't say I like troble but sometimes it seems to find me when I don't need it!

Congratulations on the new book! I do enjoy reading about trouble but want it to stay far away from me when I'm not reading.

I think a little bit of trouble is exciting. Although, I have to say that I'm a rule follower by nature. So, I probably like trouble in fiction better than real life.

I love trouble. It happens to be my middle name! Without a little trouble life would be so very boring. It is the secret spice that makes all books, dishes, marriages and everything else so much better! :-)

Hiya, Donna. I love trouble in the books I read, but not so much in real life. :-) I must tell you again how much I love the cover of this book. The look on the cover model's face perfectly matches the title of the book. I think this cover will be quite the eye-catcher when people are browsing the bookshelves.

A little trouble makes life interesting. So whats not to like.

Hi Donna and Congrats on your release !! Do I like trouble ?? Mmmm not really, in fact, not at all. But that is in real life. Because in the fiction world that's a different thing ! I loooove to read about trouble and crazy situations characters can put themselves in. Here Comes Trouble sounds like a very good read and Brett...*sigh*... perfect ;-). Congrats again !

Donna ~ Congrats on the bestseller lists! That's so exciting, and the Cosmo excerpt rocks, too! Like Elle Woods, I gotta' have my Cosmo. :0) ~ Tiffany

Hi everyone! Thanks for having me as a guest today, Tiffany. And thank you, all of you, for the kind words about Here Comes Trouble. I'm thinking I'm not the only one who enjoys vicarious trouble - just heard it hit two bestseller lists yesterday! You guys rock for helping to make the launch of the book such a success. (And yes, I do like trouble in a kilt, too! I am having a blast with that series and can't wait for you all to get the chance to dive in and tell me what you think about it.) Also - check out my blog to read up on the Valentine's Day contest I'm running the next two weeks. Free book possibilities everywhere! Now I'm off to do some more RomCon exploration - so much to read here!! Great site, Tiffany!

Hi, Donna ~ Looks like I'm on the "goody-two-shoes" boat with you and Katrina! Got in trouble once but that cured me - a three day suspension in junior high is not fun - especially if you could have seen the look on my mom's face. I think that's why I love books with some trouble...let's me live vicariously. Can't wait to get my hands on Here Comes Trouble! And that cover...smokin'! I'm also thrilled to hear you'll be returning to "the land of heather and tartan" - I loved The Great Scot. :0) Enjoy your day at RomCon! ~ Tiffany

Sounds like I'm a lot like you, Donna! I had the distinction of being the only person in my graduating class never to get a detention. Looking back, I wish I'd let myself have more fun and get in trouble more often (or at all!). These days, I still don't like getting in trouble, but I do take more risks. Otherwise, what's the point?
Posted by GSM on 2010-02-02 at 00:19:02 am:
Sure--a little trouble now and then keeps things exciting.
Posted by Jane on 2010-02-02 at 00:11:38 am:
Congrats on the new release, Donna. A little trouble never hurt anyone and I do agree with Linda that it does make it more exciting. Not sure if I can handle a whole lot of trouble though.
