Contemporary - Made for Marriage by Helen Lacey -

laceyMADE FOR MARRIAGE

Equestrian Callie Jones was used to difficult parents at her riding school. But Noah Preston took the cake. How dare he question her teaching abilities, after his headstrong daughter paid no heed to rules—her teacher's or her father's? Single dad Noah was ready to apologize for overreacting. But he wasn't sorry for the way the stunning American riding instructor made him feel. And he soon learned that there was more to Callie than her smarts, sass and fire: a shattered heart that threatened to splinter even further. Could he make her see that he—and his family—were for keeps?

Excerpt

Callie Jones knew trouble when she came upon it. And the thirteen-year-old who stood defiantly in front of her looked like more trouble than she wanted on a Saturday morning.

For one thing, Callie liked to sleep later on the weekend, and the teenager with the impudent
expression had banged on her door at an indecently early 6:00 a.m. And for another, the girl
wasn't anything like she'd expected. Her long black hair was tied up ...

Historical - Firelight by Kristen Callihan -

An arranged marriage is never an easy way to begin a relationship, especially if the groom hides his appearance behind a black mask and is also a suspected murderer. What is a lady to do? If she is stubborn and not easily swayed by circumstantial evidence, she takes it upon herself to discover all she can about her new husband.

Unfortunately, such endeavors usually are dangerous –in more ways than one, as Miranda, my heroine in FIRELIGHT, learns first hand after she and her husband Archer survive an attack by an unknown assailant, and have…shall we say…a most heated exchange afterward.

In this scene, our intrepid heroes are returning home after said, ahem, heated exchange…

Archer glanced at her and smirked. “I don’t suppose you will tell me just how you intended to turn those young men who attacked you that night into luncheon?” She sank back into the shadows, away from his keen stare. The weak lamp above their heads swung like a pendulum, moving Archer’s dark form in and out of shadow as the coach sped down Great Russell Street toward Piccadilly. “Perhaps when ...

Fantasy / Futuristic / Paranormal - A Taste for a Mate by Carrie Ann Ryan -

new coverVampires or Werewolves: The Debate of an Era

A choice that hurts my brain. Honestly. Fangs or Hair? Claws or Talons? Blood or um... Blood? You see, I love them all. I can’t choose! If we forget the old versions of both in which they all are evil and blood sucking and gross, we can just look at what we know.

Vampires, sparkly or not, have a sense of old age and wisdom. You see them with their chiseled features and tormented souls and you fall in love. Now, if you think back to the late 90’s, they were just on the cusp of transitioning between soulless creatures and hot heroes who save the world. In essence: Buffy’s Angel.

*sigh*

But look at Seth Green’s werewolf in that show? Brainless monsters that were more demonic dog like, rather than the wolves we love today.

Werewolves, to me, are more in tune with the Earth. They are muscled and manly and highly family oriented in Packs. They do have an animalistic side that may cause them to have a short temper and ...
