Thanks for the welcome, Tiffany! It's my first time at RomCon's forum, so I hope I'm doing this right.
You know, I write both romantic suspense and I co-write erotic romance with Larissa Ione under the name Sydney Croft. But whether I'm writing or reading romance or erotic romance or any kind of romance, the way I approach the hot scenes is really all the same.
The hottest scenes are all about what's between the ears. You know what I mean - it's the emotion that drives those scenes. No matter how graphic or not, if the emotional connection is there, even if it's just beginning, you know it's going to be a really, really good scene.
One of my all time favorites is from Suzanne Brockmann's Over the Edge (Terri & Stan's book)...and it's between Sam and Alyssa. Alyssa's been drinking and she admits she misses Sam and comes to his room and...
Well, you know :) It's not a really graphic scene, and it's all from Sam's point of view and it manages to be funny, hot and romantic. I'm going to track down the book and give a small peek at some of my favorite lines as soon as I can.
So share with me - what's your favorite genre - and your favorite hot scene?

While there are many many scenes that pop into my mind just thinking about possibilities, without a doubt my absolute favorite is the bathroom scene in Lover Unbound with Vishous and Jane. Whew....oh my! Pages 267-270...yes I have the page numbers memorized. I have probably read that book 20 times and just the thought of that scene still gives me goosebumps - but most of J.R. Ward's stuff does that to me no matter how many times I read it or who the characters are, and Vishous is my all-time favorite "male" character in any book.
There are so many others too. Stephanie - I love the scene you gave too. Love all the stuff between Alyssa and Sam. Oh and I love the scene between Max and Gina in Breaking Point when Max finally comes to terms with his love for Gina and he tells her. And I love the scene between Robin and Jules in the limo in Force of Nature! Ok, I need to stop because I could go on and on about Brockmann scenes.
And then there is Lauren Dane's Coming Undone. I just read that recently and while there isn't one particular scene ... there is just something about Brody..."sigh" Every single page in that book ranks right up there for me now.
I don't really have a favorite genre - I mean if a book is good it's just good right? And sometimes I don't even need all the smut to keep me interested. ;-) LOL!

Okay, ladies! I'm adding those books to my TBR list - and putting them at the top. I'm afraid that's going to happen a lot today! I love the scene in Kresley Cole's Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night when Bowen hauls Mari away from the cave the group is sharing...Nothing really happens but the tension and angst...Oh man!
I had a couple others...why is my mind coming up blank? Oh, I know, because I'm still stuck on that first one!
BTW, Steph, I just picked up Hard to Hold on the rave reviews of my friend, Jen. Can't wait to dive in!

Well, I've heard mention of "Chapter 32" (2nd book) in Jeaniene Frost's series on another forum I'm on. The whole group of women were going to have t-shirts made with the chapter on it. Guess it's hot with a capital H. It's on my TBR pile right now.
I love Z and Bella when he finally caves in. (JR Ward) Man, oh, man. And Angela Knight's book, Jane's Warlord. Riley and Mercy in Branded By Fire -Nalini Singh. Both of those books, the whole darn book is intense. There are just too many to list. But, I will say, if the emotional connection isn't there, I won't ever buy that author again. I love a hot scene, but it's got to MEAN something for me to really be drawn in. Hot emotionally as well as physically. Then I'm happy, happy, happy.

| OMG - Samantha, that bathroom scene is AMAZING! V's my favorite and his book is my favorite (I know a lot of people didn't buy into the ending but the whole thing just worked for me)..but that scene, when she locks herself in and he's like, I warned you...
*sighs*
LOL - Tiffany - that's what happened to me this morning...just kept picturing Sam and Alyssa...and Sam...
ahem. Oh, and thanks for buying HTH! I hope you enjoy :) Jen's very sweet!
And I've never read a Kresley Cole - I see that'll have to change.
Hi Michele -
LOL - that ch 32 thing makes me want to go out and buy the book immediately.
And agreed, totally - even if it's bed first and then they fall, the reasons they fall into bed have to be enough for me to buy into the whole thing...there's got to be that tension there.... |

I see a few books here I need to add to me wishlist.
And seriously if you havent read it yet Chapter 32 was amazing. Its a great series besides that but wow.
While I read all genres, my favorite really is paranormal.
It really does have a lot to do with the emotions in the scene as well as whats happening. If the scene is just thrown in the book to be in there, I wont enjoy it and will get annoyed. But if it fits the characters actions and how you want their relationship to move forward then its great. Im not wording this well today, hopefully you get what I mean. |

I'm definitely going to have to check out some of these books...they sound amazing!
There's a scene in Love Storm by Susan Johnson that will be forever burned into my memory. It's HOT. The heroine, Zena, gets kidnapped, drugged with an aphrodisiac, then paraded around before being "sold" to the highest bidder, which is of course the hero Alex. He swoops in to save her (after some really, um, hot scenes) and carries her off on his horse...where the most erotic scene (in my opinion) happens. Should definitely pick up the book.
Oh, another really steamy book is The Love Slave by Beatrice Small...I recommend the whole book for hot scenes. :)

So many love scenes so many choices, where to begin.
While I agree that Mercy and Riley were awesome, I have to say that Judd and Brenna in Caressed by Ice by Nalini Singh are my favorite. The scene where they finally can make love and Judd tells Brenna that he has been studying and making plans in case he was ever able to be with her.
Stephanie Laurens is always great and her scenes are awesome. I have three favorite scenes, one from Scandals Bride. This is the first love scene between Richard and Catriona. Unknowing what kind of man he is and his stamina, she drugs him with an aphrodisiac (sp?) wohoo is that scene great. The other two come from her book A Rogues Proposal, both having to do with Demon trying to either save Flick or distract her. The first one is the first love scene between them, and the second one is one that takes place at almost the end of the book.
Two other of my favorite scene's are from Sherrilyn Kenyon. When Acheron and Tory finally make love, and then Tabby and Valerius.
Anything by Kresley Cole and Tara Janzen is great. Christine Warren also does great scenes....oohh I just remembered one. Christine Feehan's Safe Harbor, when Jonas and Hannah first get together.
Okay I think that i am done for the moment.
